Eye Contact Assist Device?

Invention is the mother of necessity and undoubtedly a consequence of sheltering at home with time to think.

Speaking on a conference call recently, Simon Mainwaring the Australian futurist and CEO advisor said we can expect a technological explosion in the coming months and years, a result of  inventors with time on their hands to solve problems.

Some ideas have been in the works for a while and the Pandemic has only accelerated their importance.

In previous posts we’ve discussed the value of eye contact as a means of connection between humans and the challenge seeing eye to eye in virtual meetings.

Now Intel confirms it is developing an ‘eye contact corrector’ that restores eye contact in live video chats irrespective of where a device’s camera and display are situated.  In other words, as long as you are looking toward your computer screen, the ‘eye direct’ technology will make it appear you are looking into the lens!  The device works in real time, on a variety of devices with different display sizes and camera positions.  “The main objective of our project is to improve the quality of video conferencing experiences by making it easier to maintain eye contact,” Leo Isikdogan, one of the researchers who carried out the study, told TechXplore.

There is no information on when the futuristic device will be available for your next meeting.  Until then remember the importance of looking into your lens and making ‘eye contact’ with your subject.

Imagine you are looking at one person, because one becomes everyone!

The online meeting experience is improving every day.   If you haven’t used breakout rooms on Zoom yet, make sure you download the latest update and see how your meetings can be enhanced.

Moving at an unprecedented pace, technology is accelerating to make your online meetings better!
